“Binge Drinking – Part of our cultural identity?”

A Mobile learning technologies venture by Tom Armstrong & Cody Reynolds

This picture, as you can see, is a picture which has been taken from a mobile phone. The content of the picture is unimportant, what it represents however, is an assignment a teacher might have a class complete. The assignment example we had in mind was on photo journalism and focussed on gaining an understanding of a particular mode of expression – the photograph, with a big emphasis on the ‘how’ and ‘why’. As English teachers, the two of us were very conscious of the need for students to learn a bit more about the technology they are so familiar with and consequently begin thinking differently about the contextual value and importance of other technologies and mediums. We invisage an assignment like this being a big success, helped by the fact that students will be required to take pictures on their mobile phones and have total control over their subject.
